Glenn Morehouse Olson is an adjunct professor for Bethel University, teaching the Language Arts Methods course in the CAPS/GS program. She is a Certified Journalism Educator who also has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater performance. Now in her 17th year as an educator, she teaches AP Lang and Comp, journalism (on-line, broadcast, social media, and print), theater, playwrighting and Language Arts (grades 9 - 12) at St. Francis High School. She has three daughters and her husband is also a Language Arts teacher. They live and work in the community of St. Francis, MN.

Biography

Background

A second career teacher, Ms. Morehouse Olson comes to teaching after a successful career as a theatre communications specialist working in public and media relations for diverse arts organizations in the Twin Cities area. Some of her most memorable experiences include working with the famed Guthrie Theater, Children's Theatre Company, Triple Espresso, Steppingstone Theatre for Youth Development, Pangea World Theater, Mixed Blood Theatre, and Penumbra Theatre.

Education and Licensure

She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.F.A. in performance from Stephens College in Columbia, MO (1987) and received her Language Arts licensure (2003) and M.A.T. (2005) from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. In addition, Morehouse Olson earned her status as a Certified Journalism Educator through the Journalism Education Association (2006), and her K-12 Theatre Arts liscensure via the MN Department of Education's portfolio process (2009).

She was awarded the Dow Jones Special Recognition Adviser Award in 2007 and received a JEA Rising Star Award for 2007-2008. Iowa State Greenlee First Amendment Award

SFHS awarded her Activities Adviser of the Year for the 2010-11 school year and she was the proud recipient of a Teacher of the Month Award during the 2011-12 school year, which is student nominated and selected.

Publications and Productions

Her work has been published in The Dow Jones Adviser Update, C:JET Magazine, Minnesota Educator Newspaper, and the VIVA Blog. Her theatrical photographs have been published in numerous Twin Cities publications such as The Star Tribune, The St. Paul Pioneer Press, Minnesota Monthly, Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine, and City Pages. Her play OurSpace received critical and popular acclaim at the 2007 Minnesota Fringe Festival and was produced by a school in China. She has produced more than 50 theatrical productions as a licensed K-12 Theatre Teacher. She has also been published in the Education Minnesota Magazine.
